Apply for Tutoring

  • Peer tutoring for a class: When a student is in need of tutoring for a specific 100 or 200-level class (ex: PSYCH 222) s/he will be assigned a peer tutor, based on availability. Students assigned a peer tutor will meet for a 50-minute session at the same time each week for the remainder of the semester. Tutoring sessions may be conducted in a one-on-one appointment or, more likely, as part of a small group. Whenever possible, the tutor assigned will have had the same professor as the tutee. Attendance is expected, and two no-shows will result in the student losing this appointment.

Note that many courses are not tutored by appointment but by Drop-In Tutoring. Please check the schedule of drop-in offerings. If you attempt to sign up for tutoring for a class that is tutored via drop-in, you will be redirected to the drop-in schedule. **** BRING YOUR ID TO SIGN IN. *****

  • COMP - (Individualized Writing Instruction) - This service is designed to provide a student with general writing assistance, help on a long term project such as a research paper, or help on mastering basic skills for the College Writing Exam. This service is provided by professional staff members who have master’s degrees or higher in English or education. Students meet with a COMP instructor in two half-hour appointments, for a total of one hour per week. Together with the professional writing staffer, the student will identify the areas they wish to address and how many weeks this service will be required. Attendance is expected, and two no-shows will result in the student losing this appointment.

  • PROF - (Academic Coaching) - This service is designed to help a student work on reading or study skills (reading comprehension, time management, test taking skills, test anxiety, etc.). Our academic coaches have earned a master’s degree or higher in education or other related fields. Together with the academic coach, the student will identify the areas they wish to address and how many weeks this service will be required. Attendance is expected, and two no-shows will result in the student losing this appointment.

  • Writing Consultation - These are one-time, 30-minute appointments with either a peer writing consultant or a professional staff member. Our peer writing consultants will review and respond to a writing assignment for a class, or our professional staffers will review a failed College Writing Exam. (For some students who have failed the CWE essay, a better option would be to sign up for the one-time Writing under Pressure Workshop.
